Finnish cleantech companies and Cleantech Finland members Neste, UPM, Valmet and Wärtsilä made the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2016 (DJSI). DJSI is a world leading corporate sustainability index that measures companies around the world in their environmental, economic and social sustainability efforts. DJSI 2016 is comprised of 316 companies. Neste, Valmet and Wärtsilä are included in DJSI World Index while UPM is a leader in the Europe Index.

Neste is included in the DJSI World for the 10th consecutive time. This year Neste is the only European oil company included on the list, ranking high especially in water related issues, environmental reporting, as well as supply chain management.

Valmet also is a serial participant in DJSI, this year being the pulp and paper and energy company’s 3rd consecutive inclusion in as a sustainability leader.

UPM meanwhile is listed as the forest and paper industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index.

“This is a very valuable benchmark for us and gives us feedback from how we operate in our everyday business. Being listed in the index, shows that we have consistently progressed well but at the same time we have to remember that the competition is getting tougher. Continuous improvement is important,” says Sami Lundgren, Vice President, Environment & Responsibility of UPM.

Neste, UPM and Wärtsilä are also ranked in Forbes's Global 2000, the list of the world's biggest companies.
