Many ship generators waste energy by rotating at constant speed. ABB has developed Dynamic AC, a new electric power system, that optimises the rotating speed of a ship's main engines. ABB’s new innovation reduces the annual fuel consumption of a large cruise vessel by up to 6%, which equals to a reduction of approximately 2000 tonnes in fuel consumption.

Dynamic AC is the most recent innovation resulting from ABB’s product development efforts aimed at improving energy efficiency in the shipping industry.

ABB Finland’s Marine and Ports business unit, which operates in Vuosaari, Helsinki and in Hamina, is in charge of developing ABB’s maritime solutions on a global scale.
