Wärtsilä has signed a 12-year agreement worth approximately EUR 900 million with Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest cruise company. The companies are existing partners and the new deal will improve their joint work to maintain the highest possible levels for cruise ship safety and reliability.

According to the agreement, Wärtsilä will handle all engine maintenance and monitoring work for 79 of Carnival Corporation’s vessels. Wärtsilä’s Dynamic Maintenance Planning (DMP) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) are also included in the agreement.

DMP and CBM optimize the vessel and fleet operations and intervals in engine overhaul are potentially extended. The agreement covers roughly 400 Wärtsilä engines, which means that even the smallest improvements in vessel fuel consumption means huge fleet operational cost savings.

Energy efficiency will be an important focus area within this agreement for Wärtsilä. Continuous monitoring and data analysis can cut fuel costs by tens of millions of dollars annually.
